Raynham (Mass. : Town)--History

Description

This trolley trestle was located in North Raynham near the present-day Milk Bottle Restaurant. The Brockton & Taunton Street Railway installed a direct route of street railway tracks along the current Route 138 about 107 years ago to provide area residents with a more direct route of travel between Brockton and Taunton. The railroad company already had tracks that crossed Broadway in North Raynham and had a passenger station constructed in that area. The railroad company refused to let the trolley company cross its tracks at grade level which resulted in the construction of the North Raynham Trestle. The trolley cars were a black and straw color which earned the company the nickname of "the ghost line" due to the appearance of the trolley cars in the evening hours.
