This building was once one of the 5 "movable" schoolhouses in Halifax. It was donated to the town to be used as a library and at the time the picture was taken is was also the town's Post Office.

The old schoolhouse from South Halifax was a gift from the J. L. Jones family. It was subsequently moved, converted and became the town's first library. For the first few years, the Post Office shared the building.
